Bank robbers involved in shootout identified

PEARL RIVER CO., MS (WDAM)-Two alleged bank robbers from Louisiana remain hospitalized in Hattiesburg  following Wednesday's shootout with police.

Walter Aswell and Logan Mills, both 24 of Mandeville, Louisiana were wounded in an exchange of gunfire with Bogalusa police officers near the White Sands community in Pearl River County.

Authorities say the two men robbed the capital one bank in Bogalusa Wednesday morning...then led police on a high speed chase down Highway 26 into Pearl River County.  Police were able to shoot out the tires of the suspect's jeep near an old abandoned store.  Bullet holes could be seen on the passenger side of the getaway vehicle as well as bullet holes in the windshield where the suspects apparently opened  fire on police from inside the jeep.   The two fled into a nearby wooded area where they were apprehended.

Bogalusa police would only say the two suspects remain hospitalized.  Neither the hospital nor authorities will release the conditions of the two men because of the ongoing investigation.
