Volunteers helps those in need in Leakesville

LEAKESVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Almost a week after a powerful storm system ravaged Leakesville, volunteers at the Salvation Army of Hattiesburg have been reaching out to those in need.

Volunteers have been going door to door handing out boxes of food, toiletries, and necessities people may not have right now in the area. They are also working with the many people who are involved in the clean-up and restoration of power.

"One of the things we try to do is restore hope, said Captain Andy Gilliam, Salvation Army, Hattiesburg. "We want to let folks know that there are people who care about them, that they are not alone."

Captain Gilliam added that the Salvation Army will be there for as long as it takes for the residents of Leakesville to get back on the road to recovery.
