U.S. Congressman Steven Palazzo visits Jones County

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - U.S. Congressman Steven Palazzo was in Jones County speaking to the Laurel Kiwanis Club about the U.S. budget and also remembered the people killed in the BP oil rig explosion last year in the Gulf.

Palazzo said, "We have come a long way but there's still a lot of uncertainties on the long term recovery, not only with our economy but with the environment as a whole."

Palazzo said, 365 days later, some of south Mississippi is still trying to recover from this disaster.

He said, "It just not the victims of the fire but also the victims of the 12 thousand offshore works who have lost their jobs. That is taking $500 million in wages out of our economy."

Palazzo said he is committed to seeing that the Gulf and its residents are made whole.
