JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A pregnant woman was injured when gunfire erupted in a south Jackson neighborhood Tuesday afternoon. Police are calling it a drive-by shooting.

It happened shortly before 2PM this afternoon in the 2900 block of Lakewood Drive. Those who witnessed the shooting were shaken by the violence.

Jackson Police officer Colendula Green says Darlalyn White was struck as she stepped into a Toyota Camry.

Investigators say that White and a friend were walking along the 29 hundred block of Lakewood drive. That's when witnesses say a black Dodge Charger with tinted windows drove up with three men inside.

Police say one of the men opened fire and struck the 18 year old twice. She is 13 weeks pregnant and was hit in the side and arm.

Constance McClanahan was pulling out of her driveway with her children in the car when the shooting happened right in front of her house.

"I ran after the girl" said McClanahan. "She got out of the car at the stop sign, ran down the street and fell and I ran after her and was on the phone with 9-1-1."

"We're not sure if she was the target or the vehicle that pulled up to give her a ride was the target, but we're currently looking for these subjects in the black dodge charger with tinted windows" said officer Green.

Police recovered the Toyota Camry. They found it abandoned not far from the crime scene. Police want to talk with its driver and determine a possible motive.

White is listed in stable condition at UMMC.
