Suspect appears in Forrest County court on 1979 rape and murder charges

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The man accused of raping and murdering Eva Gail Patterson more than 30 years ago appeared for arraignment in Forrest County Circuit Court Tuesday morning.

Andrew Harris pled not guilty. He was indicted in December 2010 for the 1979 murder. He is already in prison, serving a life sentence for another Forrest County rape in 1981.

The Patterson case sent three men to prison: Phillip Bivens, Larry Ruffin, and Bobby Ray Dixon. They were all exonerated in fall 2010 when new DNA evidence implicated Harris.
