Three suspects apprehended after a home invasion in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Police were called to the scene of a suspected home invasion a little after 1:30 Monday afternoon. A neighbor reported suspicious activity to police from the 300 block of Venetian Way off of North 21st Street. When officers arrived, 3 suspects fled on foot, through back yards and over bushes.

One of the suspects, a 15 year old, was apprehended while hiding from police in a city trash can. The second suspect was found a short time later in a ditch, also a minor. A third suspect, 19 years of age, was also taken in for questioning. Sargeant Alan Murray of the Hattiesburg Police Department says cooperation from neighbors was vital in apprehending the suspects. Murray said, "I was very happy that a neighbor nearby did call in suspicious activities, and that gave us a chance to respond to the call, and actually, there was a burglary in progress. So, the citizen, neighbor, did help out, with another neighbor and helped the police to make sure this doesn't happen. The city of Hattiesburg, we're not going to put up with it. If we get more people that interact with us in a positive way, we can make sure that crimes stay down."

The incident has been turned over to investigators, and so far, nothing was reported stolen from the house. No one was in the home at the time of the invasion.
