Delta Sigma Theta Sorority celebrates 25 years of service

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. held  their 25th Anniversary Celebration Luncheon Sunday afternoon at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. is a private non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world.

Several members were recognized for 25 years of service to the Hattiesburg community as a member of the chapter. One thousand dollar scholarships were also awarded to three Pine Belt area graduating high school seniors.

Keynote speaker for the luncheon was Delta Sigma Theta National President, Cynthia Butler McIntyre. She reminded the gathering of the commitment they have made to provide service to the community.

"As a sisterhood committed to service, with public service being our thrust, it's who we are, it's what we do,"said Butler-McIntyre. "We will continue to be the beacon of light of hop and all that needs to be done for those whose voices aren't heard."

Each of the members donated $22 for a total of $1522 to go to the people of Haiti who are still trying to recover from last years earthquake that devastated the nation.
