National Guard families raising money for welcome home celebrations

Family members of a Mississippi National Guard unit have been busy lately raising money to give their heros a proper welcome home. Saturday morning, the Family Readiness Group for the 184th Expeditionary Sustainment Command hosted a pancake breakfast at First Baptist Church.

The purpose was to bring in funds for the welcome home gatherings planned for the 250 soldiers of the unit.

They've been serving in Afghanistan since last August and are due home in July.

"This money is being raised to help us fund any of the celebrations for when they come home, putting the billboards up on the streets, putting the signs up, putting the flags up and having a celebration dinner when they come in," said Meri Drago, fundraiser co-chair for the 184th Family Readiness Group.

Saturday's event was the group's second fundraiser in Hattiesburg.

Others are also planned.
