Candlelight vigil scheduled in Laurel to honor crime victims

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Crime victims, their loved ones and advocates from all across the Pine Belt came together at Pine Hurst Park in Laurel Thursday, to honor those who have survived crimes and those who have lost their life.

There was a crowd of at least 50 people who sang songs, lit memorial candles and took part in a balloon release to show support. This years theme is "Reshaping the Future, Honoring the Past."

Director of the Hattiesburg Shafer Center for Crisis Intervention, Kim Newell said, "it's important to promote victims rights and honor crime victims. Having a ceremony not only shows support, it gives victims a voice."
