HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - Mississippi's Lieutenant Governor and Republican Gubernatorial candidate, Phil Bryant, was in Hattiesburg on Wednesday welcoming his new campaign office.
The office is located along Hardy Street in the two thousand block and will serve as the campaign's Pine Belt office. This week Bryant is traveling the state on a bus tour, touting his candidacy and welcoming several offices across Mississippi promoting his bid for Governor.
Byrant said the number one issue on the minds of Mississippi residents is the economy and job creation. The Lieutenant Governor said the way to encourage job growth is through targeted tax cuts and incentives for companies looking to locate and hire in Mississippi.
"So it's growing the businesses, using the community colleges and universities for workforce development and making sure that those 35% of children that drop out of school learn a trade," explained Bryant.
Bryant said Hattiesburg is like a second home to him because he is a Southern Miss graduate and one of his children is a graduate of the university, while another is a current student.
One Southern Miss figure present at Wednesday's ribbon cutting was the university's head football coach, Larry Fedora.
