Habitat for Humanity hosts "Hard Hats and Pearls" Luncheon

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Area Habitat for Humanity hosted it's second annual "Hard Hats and Pearls" luncheon Tuesday at the Hattiesburg Cultural Center. The event was to kick off the Women Build project, which encourages women to put on their hard hats and get involved building houses for the less fortunate. Johniece DuPree, the wife of Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree, was the guest speaker, and she says the project is something all women should participate in, because they are already programmed with the tools to nurture.

DuPree said, "Women take care of the children, we take care of our husbands, those who are not married take care of their significant others, I mean, that's just who we are, that's who women are, so to go out and have a hand in giving somebody a hand up, women need to do that."

The main goal of the luncheon was to recruit women to get involved with Habitat for Humanity, either by donating money, time, or encouragement.
