Parkway Commemorates National Park Week April 23

NATCHEZ, MS (WDAM) - The Natchez Trace Parkway will recognize National Park Week, April 18-23, and Junior Ranger Day, with the annual "Celebrate Wildlife Weekend"
on April 23 at the Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All events will be outdoors and include:
   ·  Terry Vandeventer's educational, fun, live snake program:  "Snakes of
      Mississippi" at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
   ·  Other exhibitors include the Tombigbee Pioneer Group and Mississippi
      State University
   ·  Wildlife Discovery hike along the Beech Springs Nature Trail
   ·  Hands-on activities
   ·  A special Junior Ranger Scavenger Hunt

All events are free and open to the public.

Mr. Vandeventer's program will be available to local schools on April 21.  Interested teachers can call 662-680-4027 for availability. 

The Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor Center is located along the Parkway at Milepost 266

    The Perry County Sheriff's Office and the DEA arrested to men on drug charges Wednesday.  Clarence Steele and Chalmers Sumrall were arrested.  Steele was charged with sale of a controlled substance on a federal level and was later denied bond, according to a PCSO Facebook post.     Ellisville police arrested a Sumrall man after a drive-by shooting that injured a man on Wednesday night.  Kelvin Preston, 19, turned himself in and was charged with attempted murder, according to the Ellisville Police Department.  Police responded to the shooting near Dubose Park and found that 19-year-old Jaquan Smith, of Ellisville, was shot in the hip, according to police.  Smith was transported to South Central Regional Medical Center, where he underwent surgery...
