HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The congregation of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Hattiesburg gathered for services Sunday morning despite the fire that destroyed their education building Monday evening.
Because of the fire some of the normal activities at the church were canceled including Sunday school, Sunday evening services and the Wednesday night fellowship dinner.
Church Pastor David Williamson says a contractor will begin clearing the debris from the lot Monday and they hope to have it cleaned up by the end of the week. As for rebuilding, he says they will meet after the cleanup and decide where to go from there.
"I think there is an excitement building, what is it that God is attempting to teach us and what he would have us do next, said Williamson. "I think there is a lot of people excited about worship this morning."
Sunday school will resume next week, however in smaller groups and at an earlier time.
