HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - Bay Street Presbyterian Church is a historical Hattiesburg treasure. Built in 1906, it's original components like the Sunday school room still remain much as it always has.
In 1946, Hattiesburg native Louise Cubley married her late husband, Harold, in the church and she has been an important part of it's congregation ever since.
According to Cubley, "It's home of the Lord to us and it meant a lot to us."
Earlier this month, Cubley was honored for her more than sixty years as a Sunday school teacher at Bay Street Presbyterian Church. It's a position she has just recently retired from. Cubley joked that she felt, "Just tickled to death with a big head."
Additionally, Cubley has been a part of the church's exterior beauty. Her green thumb can be seen in it's landscaping and new parking addition named after her husband.
The church has nearly a hundred regular and faithful members, according to Pastor Brian Davis, and Cubley knows all of them.
Davis explained, "Everybody in the church knows that when it's their birthday, they will get a call from Ms. Cubley around seven AM to wish them a happy birthday. She has had that tradition for I don't know how long."
Louise Cubley has six sons and many more grandchildren. When she is not at church, Cubley can be found volunteering at other Hattiesburg locations, brightening up everyone's day.
