Fundraiser for Mayor Dupree held in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg mayor and Democratic candidate for governor Johnny Dupree made a campaign stop in his hometown Thursday night. A campaign fundraiser, sponsored by several local supporters, was held at the Hattiesburg Cultural Center.

Dupree has been making his way across the state, preparing for the upcoming Democratic Primary. Wednesday night, he took part in a political forum in Starkville.

Friday night, he'll speak in Calhoun County.

"The good thing about this traveling around the state is I've gotten to meet a lot of people that I wouldn't have necessarily had the opportunity to meet," Dupree said. "I've gotten the opportunity to visit areas that I wouldn't necessarily have done and that's a good thing. I'm getting to know my state," said Dupree.

The Democratic Primary is August 2nd.
