Forrest General named in top 10% for vascular surgery

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- A new study released by Healthgrades, an independent healthcare ratings organization, shows that Forrest General Hospital is among the top 10% in the nation for vascular surgery.

Hospital President, Evan Dillard said, "We are really excited about this award, it's the 1st time we have been recognized for this particular award and it's really a thrill to be a part of this team."

Hospital Staff and Administrators were presented the 2011 vascular surgery excellence award early Thursday morning by Healthgrades Representative Chris Turner. Forrest General is one of three hospitals in Mississippi to receive this ranking and the only one in the region to receive an award.

Turner said, "in visiting with Forrest General over the last two days, what we have found is, that it's truly a culture that promotes transparency and a commitment to the patient."

Every hospital in the nation was included in this study, which examined mortality rates and complication rates data from 2007, 2008 and 2009.

The study examined patient outcomes, from nearly 40 million medicare hospitalization records over a three year period.
