Birthday Bash Saturday at Hattiesburg Zoo

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Zoo is celebrating its 61st anniversary Saturday by throwing a Birthday Bash. The party starts at 10:00 a.m. and runs until 4:00p.m.

The event coincides with the Hattiesburg Zoological Society's Zoo Blues and will feature four mini birthday celebrations throughout the day located at four different continents represented at the zoo.

Over the past few months several projects have been in the works to bring new attractions to the zoo. Though some are still a work in process, two will be unveiled during the bash.

Opening ceremonies will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by a birthday party in South America at 11:00. The head line celebration gets underway at noon. At 1:00 p.m. is the birthday party in Asia. The birthday party in the Mississippi Habitat is at 2:00 p.m. and closing out the day at 3:00 p.m. is the birthday party in Africa.

In addition Education Curator Krissy Hamilton will give a special performance with the zoo's education animals and birthday cake will be provided for all guests.

    After losing the first two games of the season by a combined five points, Collins has won 12 consecutive games to advance to the class 2A South State title. The Tigers (12-2) defeated Bay Springs 22-8 on Friday to advance to a south state matchup against Taylorsville (13-1). Collins scored twice in the fourth quarter to overcome the Bulldogs on the road. "I feel great," said Collins head coach Eric Booth, a former USM running back.
