Lamar School Board will not renew Sumrall football coaches contract

LAMAR CO. (WDAM)- The Lamar County school board met Thursday evening and decided not to renew the contract of Sumrall head football coach Mark McHale.

McHale was once an assistant football coach at Southern Miss and has coached three time MVP Brett Favre.  McHale also coached Byron Leftwich while at Marshall, and has coached at Florida State University under Bobby Bowden

Back in March of 2010, a large rally was held celebrating the selection of McHale as the Sumrall Bobcat's football coach.  However, after an executive session of the school board Thursday night McHale's time at Sumrall came to an abrupt end.

The Sumrall high school principal recommended that McHale not be rehired and the board concurred with that recommendation.
