WDAM Viewpoint- Let's Help Japan

Watching the footage and hearing of the devastation in Japan this past week has been heart-rending.  An enormous earth-quake, followed by a killer tsunami, then the incidences at the nuclear reactors.  There is no telling how long it will take to tally up the dead and injured…let alone the final cost to restore the infrastructure and economy.

When Hurricane Katrina hit the Mississippi Gulf Coast and sweeping far inland and subsequently we saw the flooding caused by failed levies in New Orleans—Japan was one of the first countries to send aid.  The Japanese government sent money and the Japanese Red Cross and other private charities sent money and aide to help.

We, of course have helped them greatly in the past.  But true charity is a cornerstone of our country.  It is time to help them again in every way possible.  Whether it is through donations of money, manpower, or whatever else they need we never lose when we help someone who suffers devastation through no fault of their own.

In doing so, our humanity truly shines.  Look for ways to be a good samaritan.  You won't have to look far.  I'm Jim Cameron and that's today's viewpoint.  Let us hear what you think.
