HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Lamar County Coroner Anna Miller released Thursday the name of the man who died in a major accident on I-59 on Wednesday.

"It was horrific, it was just a very, very bad accident," said Miller, "one of the worst I have ever seen."

William Tackett 47, of Foxworth died in a fiery crash on I-59 in Hattiesburg after his 18-wheeler collided with a pick up truck and then another 18-wheeler.

Mississippi Department of Transportation officials say a tractor-trailer struck the foundation of an overhead sign, and it fell across traffic.

Officials on the scene said two 18-wheelers became entangled, but how is unclear. One truck was carrying power poles, the other milk. Poles were spilled across the highway during the wreck. One pickup truck was also involved. The accident occurred at 3:05 p.m. Several people were transported to a local hospital.

The truck burned to the chassis. Plumes of smoke could be seen for miles from a fire at the scene after the accident.

Miller said, the victim's body has been sent to Jackson for an autopsy, results are expected within the next week. The cause is still under investigation.
