Redistricting battle continues

By Karrie Leggett

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The redistricting fight continues at the state capital. The Senate plan faces opposition from Pine Belt Republicans.

Senator Billy Hudson says the plan drawn up by Senator Terry Burton is headed to the House were several things could happen.

Hudson says one possibility is the House may amend the plan, sending it back to the senate. And the issue could go to a conference committee of Senators and House members to work out a compromise.

"What I am hearing is this thing might wind up in conference, which means three from the Senate and three from the House would try to work it out. If that can be done good.  If it can't it might wind up in court, and three judges somewhere draw those lines if we can't work it out. We have lost the battle but we haven't lost the war," said Hudson.

Hudson says the plan will go to the house for a vote this week.
