JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Dozens of Jones County residents are trying to move back into their homes after last weeks flood.

On Monday, the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross went door to door in Laurel and Jones County handing out disaster clean up kits.

Several neighborhoods in Laurel had major damage after the Tallahala Creek rose last Friday to its highest flood crest in years.

Salvation Army official, Bonita Flynn said "We had the shelter open for people that might have needed somewhere to stay so that was the first phrase, sheltering people. And when that phase closed out we started the clean up."

Meanwhile, Ward 7 Councilman Trey Chinn said he's doing everything in his power to help the flood victims get state and federal aid.
