Oklahoma troops at Shelby, OH, NY to follow

CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) - Troops from an Oklahoma National Guard unit who have begun arriving at Camp Shelby for training are among thousands from all over the U.S. who will mobilize for overseas deployment at that post in the coming months. Army officials say some soldiers from the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team are already at Camp Shelby, with the remaining 3,000 troops in the unit to mobilize later this month.

They will train at the post for several months before heading overseas.

At the end of the summer, a similar-sized unit from Ohio will arrive for training at Camp Shelby and before the end of the year, a brigade from New York will mobilize at the post.

"Camp Shelby is going to be busy, real busy this year," said Major General William L. Freeman, Jr., adjutant general for the State of Mississippi. "That doesn't include all the battalion and smaller size units that come in here and mobilize and train on the weekends, for annual training, etc. So, a lot of foot traffic, a lot of soldiers and airmen coming in and out of here," Freeman said. 

Since 2004, more than 152,000 soldiers have trained at Camp Shelby for various deployments overseas.
