HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A local high school student's senior project has brought in big dollars for the American Heart Association. Saturday, more than 100 runners took part in the first-ever, "St. Patrick's Day 5-K Run" at the Longleaf Trace.
The event was organized by Oak Grove High School senior Kent McCarty, who came up with the idea for his senior project.
"I wanted to pick something that I felt strongly about and I thought was a good charity and a good way to raise a lot of money," Kent McCarty said.
More than $1,000 was raised from the event for the American Heart Association.
