Area 17 Special Olympics to be held March 11

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Area 17 Special Olympics will be held March 11 with opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. on the campus of Jones County Junior College at Sim Cooley Field.

Opening ceremonies will be held around the track of the stadium. The events will begin at 10 a.m.

Events include; field events, wheelchair races, softball throw, horseshoes, volleyball, volleyball skills, shot put, golf skill and soccer skills competition.

There will be athletes from Ellisville State school, Jones Co. schools, Laurel city schools, Wayne Co., Jasper Co., Covington Co., and Smith Co.

    Checkpoints set up by the Perry County Sheriff's Office led to two drug arrests on Friday night. Perry County Deputies set up driver license checkpoints on Old River Road and Pumping Station Road.
