Wet weather doesn't effect JCJC's March for Veterans

ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Jones County Junior College's first March for Veteran's encountered  bad weather but it didn't dampen the spirits of the founder and event coordinator for the Mississippi Chapter of the March for Veterans and JCJC employee, Kacie Minnix.

"I just wanted to raise awareness in the community of all the veteran organizations that support our troops," said Minnix, whose husband is an Iraqi Veteran.  "I hope students and the community learns about the needs of our veterans and current service members so they can get involved and help them."

Speaking at the event was State Senator Chris McDaniel who shared memories of his grandfather who was a World War II veteran.  "He followed a call to fight Japanese Imperialist….and we won the war because of these great men and women….Thanks for passing the torch of freedom," McDaniel said, addressing the veterans.

Minnix's husband and Army friends spent the afternoon walking alongside JCJC students, faculty and staff, and community members.
