HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The top 2 candidates running for governor in the upcoming Democratic primary were campaigning in the Hattiesburg area tonight. Hattiesburg mayor Johnny Dupree and Clarksdale attorney and businessman Bill Luckett spoke at a Lamar and Forrest County Democratic Party fundraiser at the Canebrake Country Club.
That event also attracted a number of other local candidates and Attorney General Jim Hood.
"This is going to be an upbeat campaign," said mayor Dupree. "We're going to talk about issues, we're not going to talk about each other, because that is not what this is about. This is about what we can do for Mississippi, what we can do collectively for Mississippi," Dupree said.
"We're going to keep it clean and on message and focused," said Luckett. "Of course, we both want the voters to select the best Democratic nominee they can," Luckett said.
The primary is on August 2nd.
