Hub officials close to solving mystery of downtown odor

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesurg officials say they're closer to finding out the cause of that terrible odor downtown, but they can't say much because of legal concerns. City engineer Bert Kuyrkendall was supposed to address the issue at today's meeting of the Hattiesburg Historic Downtown Association.

But he didn't show up.

Officials say there was a miscommunication about his appearance. They're saying they believe they know the source of the odor, but they can't give details right now.

"We are working very, very adamantly to come up with a solution and we're very close to making progress with this," said, Jeanetta Bennett, public relations coordinator for the City of Hattiesburg.

Bennett hopes to have more information in the next few days.
