Highest court in land denies Laurel doctors appeal

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WDAM) The U.S. Supreme Court declines to hear an appeal from a Laurel doctor convicted of manslaughter in his wife's shooting death.

Justices on the U.S. Supreme Court denied Dr. Malachy DeHenre's appeal petition without comment Tuesday.  The Mississippi Supreme Court upheld his conviction last summer.

DeHenre was convicted of manslaughter in 2008  -- and was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the death of Nyasha DeHenre at the couple's Laurel home in 1997.  His first trial in 1998 ended in a hung jury.

DeHenre contends his wife shot herself. Prosecutors say Mrs. DeHenre died of a single gunshot wound to the forehead.
