HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Bond was set at $1 million for Anthony Gipson, 35, of Hattiesburg.
Gipson is charged with the murder of his girlfriend Brittany Morgan, 21. Gipson made his initial court appearance before municipal judge Jolly Matthews Tuesday morning at the Law Enforcement Complex courtroom.
Gipson, is currently being housed in the Lamar County jail.
Morgan's body was found in her Hattiesburg apartment Sunday night, beaten and stabbed to death. At around 3 am Monday morning, U.S. Marshal's and Gulf port Police spotted Gipson in the parking lot of the Island View Casino. As they approached him, he pulled out a gun and pointed it to his head. He later surrendered and was arrested, then brought back to Hattiesburg.
Sherry Morgan, the victims mother, told The Wayne County News, "Had Gipson not been released out on bail on two other occasions, her daughter might still be alive." Gipson was arrested twice and charged with assault on Brittany.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Waynesboro. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25 at McDonald and Sons' Funeral Home.
