MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Marion County family watched their home burn to the ground Friday afternoon.
Tri-Community Incident Commander Derek Smith said a passerby saw flames coming out of the two-story home located at 1923 Highway 98 East.
The Columbia Fire Department, Foxworth Fire Department and SouthWest Firefighters assisted with the blaze, which took nearly an hour to put out.
Smith said The Mississippi Forestry Commission was called out after the fire spread through more than four acres of woods near the home.
Homeowner Vernon Watts said, "I am thankful that no one was in the home when the fire started and thanks to the fire departments, my Corvette, Camaro and my motorcycle didn't burn up too."
No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
