HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Mississippi Healthcare Alliance will hold a Regional Symposium on STEMI Care, Feb. 19 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Trent Lott Center on the University of Southern Mississippi campus.
The Mississippi Healthcare Alliance says the Symposium will promote support and awareness of Mississippi's need for a standardized statewide system for STEMI patients.
STEMI or S T-elevation myocardial infarction, is a severe form of heart attack caused by the total occlusion of a major artery that supplies blood to the heart. Extended occlusion results in major heart damage.
Achievement of this system aims to significantly improve care for STEMI patients across Mississippi, reducing the morbidity and fatality rates by ensuring statewide access to cardiac care.
Attending the symposium will be emergency room physicians, cardiologists, hospital administrators, and others.
