HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Mississippi State Highway Patrol said Tuesday Hwy 98 west and east have been reopened from James Street in Forrest County to New Augusta.
The area was closed because of dense smoke which entered the area around 4 p.m. Monday and resulted in four automobile accidents overnight.
MHP said conditions are still foggy and ask motorists to proceed with caution.
Tuesday morning, traffic in the westbound lane was backed up about five miles to Beaumont.
Officials said the smoke may have come from a controlled burn near Camp Shelby.
