"Hank" Pet of the Week for 2-11-11

Hank Hank

By Jeff Daley jdaley@wdam.com

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A 25 pound three month old lab mix named Hank is the Southern Pines Animal Shelter Pet of the Week.

Hank was found abandoned, very hungry, and scared under a trailer. He was taken in by the trailers owner and is currently in foster care.

Since,he has already been neutered, has his first shots, has been micro chipped for permanent identification and has been worm tested.

Fortunately for Hank, his story should end a happy one in a new home. But for many unwanted pets in the Pine Belt this is not the case.

Pet over population is a major problem in the community. This problem could be eliminated if pet owners would get them spayed or neutered.

The Southern Pines Spay and Neuter Clinic has a high quality, low cost service right here in Hattiesburg. There hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Their phone number is 601-544-5678.

Beginning Monday, February 14 the clinic will be closed for a period of two weeks so their staff can assist with the care of animals at the shelter.

For adoption information you can reach the shelter 601-544-6632. At least for the next two weeks only animals in foster care will be available for adoption.
