Jones Co. EOC Preparing for Winter Storm Threat

With another winter storm threatening Mississippi, warnings and advisories are already in place for parts of the Pine Belt. Bitter cold temperatures along with the potential for freezing rain and snow have emergency responders ready to go. Jones County Emergency Manager Don McKinnon says they are preparing for the possibility of icing on roads and bridges, but his main concern is keeping school kids safe.

He said, "Our primary concern right now is the schools, and putting those kids, you know, you heard about the horrible accident yesterday, and so we definitely don't want to put our kids in harm's way over a day of school, so we're just gonna monitor those roads, and if it's not safe, we're not gonna have school, but if it is, we're definitely gonna be there."

McKinnon says all police municipalities in the area will be monitoring road conditions until the storm passes.
