Winter weather advisory issued

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A winter weather advisory has been issued for Jasper, Simpson, Clarke and Smith counties beginning at 6 p.m. this evening and lasting until 3 a.m. Thursday.

Snow accumulations of around 1 inch are forecast for those areas. An advisory is also in effect for Wayne county beginning at 6 p.m. and lasting until 6 a.m. Thursday. 1 to 2-inch accumulations are possible for that area.

Winter storm warnings are in effect for this afternoon through tonight from I-20 north to the state lines of Tennessee, Arkansas and Alabama.

Road conditions should be checked before traveling through those areas later this afternoon and tonight.

For the rest of the Pine Belt, rain will develop later this afternoon and will eventually become mixed or change to light snow around midnight or before. There are no warnings are watches for Forrest, Jones, Lamar, Marion, Jefferson Davis, Covington, Walthall, Lawrence or Perry counties at this time but residents are urged to keep posted on the latest weather statements concerning the developing weather event.

    The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has issued a Missing/Endangered Child Alert for four-year-old William Holley III of Clarksdale. He was last seen Saturday at approximately 11:45 a.m. near the Hampton Inn and McDonald's on Highway 49 South in Clarksdale, in Coahoma County.
