HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A local church raised funds Saturday for its outreach ministries by serving up some food which helped take the "chill" out of the air. First Presbyterian Church in Hattiesburg hosted its 3rd annual Chili Cook-Off.
The goal was to raise funds for the Palmer Home for Children and the Way Inn Ministry, which serves women who have been recently released from prison.
10 teams of competitors served up their best and hottest bowls of chili, hoping to win the title of best in town.
"We wanted to do something fun for the church that would involve the community and give them an opportunity to come here to the First Presbyterian area and us minister to them and be able to have some great fellowship have some fun cooking chili," said Wes Crider, the organizer for the event. He said he hopes to expand next year's competition to two dozen teams.
