JACKSON, MS (WDAM) - The Mississippi Department of Education is looking for sponsors to run the 2011 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) across the state.
This program is managed by the Office of Healthy Schools through the Office of Child Nutrition.
The Summer Food Service Program serves nutritious meals to children in such places as school, playgrounds, and parks. In most areas, the program operates from June through August.
Public or private nonprofit schools; local, county or state government, and public or private nonprofit organizations may qualify as sponsors of the Summer Food Service Program. Residential summer camps whose enrollment includes needy children may also act as program sponsors.
Training for new sponsors will take place in Jackson during the month of March 2011.
