Homebuyers workshop set for Feb. 12 in Jackson

The following is a press release from the University of Southern Mississippi:

JACKSON, MS - Mississippi Home of Your Own (HOYO) will sponsor a free, one-day homebuyer education workshop on Saturday, Feb. 12 for residents with and without disabilities in Hinds and surrounding counties.

The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Medgar Evers Library at 4215 Medgar Evers Boulevard in Jackson, Miss.

HOYO is an award-winning program of The University of Southern Mississippi Institute for Disability Studies. HOYO was created to empower people with disabilities to reach their individual dreams of owning and maintaining their own homes. Since 1997, HOYO has assisted 416 people with disabilities and their families in 56 Mississippi counties in becoming homeowners.

Grant funds of up to $15,000 are currently available in designated areas through HOYO. More information on these grants will be available at the workshop.

Applicants of the HOYO program must attend homebuyer education seminars to be considered for financial assistance in purchasing a home.

    The Jones County Sheriff's Department arrested two suspects after a second church in the area was burglarized on Monday morning.  Surveillance footage of the Indian Springs Baptist Church showed a white male and white female break into the church and steal an undetermined amount of cash.
