HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A strong cold front will sweep through Mississippi this week and is forecast to arrive in the WDAM viewing area in the afternoon to evening hours on Tuesday.
For starters, the front is expected to develop a squall line ahead of it which will result in a variety of weather events. Those events include the possibility of heavy rain, severe thunderstorms and possibly some isolated tornadoes as well.
After the front clears the area Tuesday night, much colder Arctic air will flow into the entire state beginning late and lasting into at least Friday.
Wednesday is expected to be windy and cold with highs only in the 40s. As the cold air settles into place, a series of weather disturbances are forecast to move through. The first will arrive on Thursday resulting in a cold rain. As temperatures fall to near freezing Thursday night, the rain could change over to freezing rain. Rain will continue on Friday and as another system comes through, the rain may change over to snow late Friday night and last into Saturday morning.
Remember, these events are several days away and things may change.
