HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - A well dressed crowd and photographers scrambling to catch all the details were just some of the elements that made Forrest General's first ever Red Carpet Event a night to remember.
On Tuesday, employees were honored for their hard work and dedication to the hospital. Millie Swan is Forrest General's Chief Marketing and Medical Staff Services Officer.
According to Swan, "We probably all have a little part of us that says I'd like to walk the red carpet at least one time in my life."
Dr. Tom Messer, the hospital's Director of Cardiovascular Services, received the Philip Rogers Quality Award for Leadership. Rogers was a longtime nephrologist with Hattiesburg Clinic.
"Phil was a very respected, great physician with Hattiesburg Clinic, who passed away several years ago. And even to have recognition associated with his name is a tremendous honor for those of us who knew him," said Messer.
Also recognized during the event were many longtime employees. Some folks, like Ka Russum, have worked at the hospital for 35 years.
Russum said, "This is the largest event that we've had to recognize employees since I've been here. We've had some fun events, but this is really special tonight."
Helping to celebrate the occasion were several performances by area dancers. Additionally, the hospital's Spirit Girls performed and local pageant winners helped distribute awards while WDAM's Randy Swan kept the show going as event emcee.
