Barbour appoints chancery judge to replace H. C. Thomas

FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Governor Haley Barbour appointed Tuesday Forrest County Justice Court Judge Deborah Gambrell as chancery judge District 10 to replace the late judge James H. C. Thomas.

A vacancy was created when Judge James H.C. Thomas Jr., who died Oct. 1, won a majority of the votes cast in the Nov. 2 election.  

Gambrell, currently in private practice in Hattiesburg, is a 1972 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, with a Bachelor of Science degree. She studied law at Mississippi College, receiving her Juris Doctorate with Cum Laude distinction in 1978. With 25 years of trial experience, Gambrell also has served as a justice court judge in Forrest County since 1980.

The Chancery Court District 10, Place 1 position includes Forrest, Lamar, Marion, Pearl River and Perry counties.
