ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - At the Tuesday Board of Supervisors meeting in Ellisville the Jones County fire council rolled out two brand new fire tankers.
These tankers will be put to service at the Rustin and Sharon Volunteer Departments. The acquisition of the tankers will allow the two departments to maintain a fire rating of eight which will help keep insurance costs for residents and businesses in the community low.
The tankers were funded in part by a federal Assistance to Firefighters grant in the amount of $380,000.
"These two vehicles represent approximately a half million dollars worth of fire equipment," said Dan McKenna, fire coordinator for Jones County. "They are 3500 gallon vacuum tankers that also have fire pumps on them and the ability to not only haul the water, but also to fight the fire."
Both of the departments are also applying for the State of Mississippi Insurance Rebate grant which will pay for all of the additional local matching costs of the tankers.
