Green company may bring 1000 jobs to Hattiesburg

Hattiesburg, (WDAM) - Governor Haley Barbour will be in Hattiesburg Tuesday to announce a major economic development project for the Hub city.

Sources close to the situation tell 7 On Your Side the announcement could mean as many as a thousand new jobs within six years, with an average salary of 43,000 dollars a year.

Governor Barbour is expected to announce that Stion, a California based company involved in developing and manufacturing ultra thin solar panels for residential and government use, will locate a facility in Hattiesburg...probably in the old Sunbeam plant in the industrial park.  Sources say the company is willing to invest nearly a half a billion dollars in the Hattiesburg facility.

We are also told the Mississippi legislature will be asked to approve a multi million dollar loan to help with equipment purchases and workforce training. The announcement is scheduled for 10:00 Tuesday morning at the Lake Terrace convention center.
