Downtown developers look back on 2010

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Community developers and business leaders in historic downtown Hattiesburg are making big plans for this year, even as they look back on a successful 2010. Some major projects are in the works for the area, according to members of the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association.

Details will be announced in the coming days.

Later this month, the organization will host its annual meeting to discuss the accomplishments of 2010. Among those were many firsts for downtown Hattiesburg.

"This summer, Festival South was a resounding success," said Betsy Rowell, executive director of the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association. "Many of the venues for that 2-week long series, were downtown and that continues next year. Heritage Day was a wonderful event. That was in June. The homecoming parade, the centennial homecoming in downtown Hattiesburg, was just really great. So, we did have a year of many first special events," Rowell said.

The annual meeting for the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association will be held January 27.
