HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg School Board Friday named James Bacchus of Memphis as the new school superintendent for the city's public schools, replacing Dr. Annie Wimbish who resigned this summer.
Bacchus, 58, was chosen from 3 finalists for the job. The others included Hattiesburg's interim superintendent Dr. Jimmy Hopkins, and Philadelphia, Mississippi School District superintendent Joseph White.
Bacchus was the unanimous choice of the School Board. He is currently the chief of student support for Memphis Public Schools. He hopes to be on the job by Feb. 15.
