HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - One Hattiesburg church invited the community to join them in an early, annual celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. A Christmas vigil at the Lake Terrace Convention Center was hosted by St. Thomas Catholic Church, but was open to people of all denominations.
The service is held each year at the convention center because of the large numbers of people who attend.
"Our hope is at Christmastime that, as the light shines on us, that the light also shines in us and that we truly celebrate the birth of Christ," said Fr. Tommy Conway of St. Thomas Catholic Church.
That church can seat about 700 people.
The convention center can hold more than twice that number.
