HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - The Greater Pine Belt Community Foundation is working to increase their number of endowments that are designed to help people give long term to their favorite charities.
The foundation was created back in 1997 as a project of the Area Development Partnership. Since that time it has grown to include 69 active accounts that are working to make a difference in the community.
The foundation facilitates charitable giving through a variety of funds including endowments. Also, folks can go through the foundation if they would like to start a new charitable organization without establishing their own independent non-profit.
According to the organization's Executive Director, Theresa Erickson, the foundation handles all administrative details on a charity's behalf.
"We take care of everything, so a person doesn't have to worry about all of the accounting and the management of a 501(C)(3), we do that for people for a very, very small fee," said Erickson.
In 2009, the Greater Pine Belt Community Foundation distributed over 340-thousand dollars in grants to local charity's.
