Church gives away holiday turkeys

ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - A "Merry Christmas" said at one Ellisville church will get you more than a "same to you." It will also get you a free turkey.

Saying "Merry Christmas" is all you needed to do Tuesday night to get a free turkey at West Ellisville Baptist Church. It was all part of an annual turkey giveaway, sponsored by state senator Chris McDaniel.

He says church volunteers were ready to give out about 400 holiday birds. "It's a way to encourage people to be proud of their heritage, be proud of who they are and also, for us to give back to the community," McDaniel said.

This was the 5th year for the turkey giveaway.
