Laurel youth club gets early Christmas present

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - A Laurel youth organization has gotten an early Christmas gift from a former business owner's family. The Better Boys and Girls Community Learning Center is now the owner of the former White-Way Cleaners building on South Magnolia Street.

It was donated by the family of the former owner, who died in 2006. The learning center's co-founder Kenneth Rogers hopes to turn the property into a new youth center for neighborhood children. He says, however, the building needs a lot of work.

Rogers and center staff members have presented the owner's family with a plaque, thanking them for their donation.

He says the building dates back to 1946.
